Your mention of Scatza jogged my memory. I've found the following thread which has a couple of pages discussion on the Mielemaens (alts)

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=354362.0

I note that JAP found some wills which might be worth following up.

ScotlandsPeople has them, in a Wills search:
John MEIKLEMEIN, 30/11/1677, in Drumoir, Kirkcudbright Commissary Court
John MEIKLEMEAN, 27/11/1741, in Bar, Parish of Rerrick, Edict only, Kirkcudbright Commissary Court
Andrew MICKLEMEAN, 28/11/1752, in Gile of Newlaw, Testament Dative and Inventory, Kirkcudbright Commissary Court

(Just re-checked my Will search and these are tucked in the list amidst all the Mcs - I used Trad Soundex)

Hi Gadget,

No Janets in the descendants i'm afraid.

Think i'll take a look at the Wills search via ScotlandsPeople.

Hi Gadget,

Have just downloaded the Will of Andrew Micklemean & although not very clear,he seems to name his daughter as Jannet Micklemean, relict of William McNaugh(e?).

Not sure this helps me very much but just thought i'd let you know.

I think that thread is the best source of info on the Meiklemiens. Scatza had done masses of research on them.  She doesn't seem to come on any more but it might be worth  sending her a PM, just in case she gets it.

Will check through more of my books.

Andrew (of Newlaw) was 'Brother German* and nearest of kin to deceased John Mieklemean' - Edict dated 1741.

Not sure if you've seem these - all offspring of a John Meiklevenie and Grizel McBurnie, Tongland, early 1700s.

Also I've noticed quite a few of the surname variations in Ayrshire, so looked there:

Ayr             14.01.1731 Anna Mcclevein /o Joseph Mcclevein and Anna Rodgerson
St Quivox    23.03.1736 Anna Mclvain d/o John Mclevain
Kirkoswald   3.01.1732 Ann d/o John Mclvein

Some of my D & G families moved from Ayrshire to Kirkcudbrightshire, so don't discount them.

Thanks once again for all your help - have sent Scatza a PM. Hopefully she'll come back to me fairly soon.
