Hello - I am searching for birth/christening details for my ggfather Thomas Hubert Punch born ?1862 in Cork - his parents are John Greenway Punch and Mary Hinchy/Henchy. He had 3 other siblings born in the Carrigaline District - William 1864, Clara 1865 and Edwin 1867. His father was a master mariner. Have checked familysearch, RootsIreland and Irish Genealogy without success. He died in Australia in 1898. Any assistance greatly appreciated.

You will not find a Civil Birth Cert as registration was only introduced in Ireland in 1864.

Also Census 1901 has 106 entries for Punch name in County Cork.

What religious denomination was the family?

Hi Sonas - They were Catholic and lived at varying times at Castletown Berehaven, Ringaskiddy and Barnahely.

The earliest known in the family is Mathew Punch who was a ship's carpenter and most of his sons were master mariners - one son Thomas was drowned in Milford Haven Harbour in Wales in 1860. His other son John Greenway Punch went to Australia in the 1850s however he made several trips trips back to Cork and several of his children born there - it is his son Thomas whose birth details I am trying to find.

There is another Thomas in the records for 1866 but that is a son for James and Catherine Punch - James was a son of Mathew and also a master mariner - he and his son Thomas eventually went to Australia - however I do not know what became of his wife Catherine and their other child James.
