Thanks for the response China.  I greatly appreciate it.  I've done the best with what I have.  I leave for UK on Friday and am flat out. Actually visiting a newly found couple of third cousinns in Leicester and we are interested in find who this is. (My only relatives outside Australia as far as I have found.)

I can see the word Marion there, but not sure what else.  If this is no help, I'll have a closer look when I am back hoe.

Thanks again.

Well thanks China, and others,

This is very interesting to me.  The photo was with a collection of family taken around and after this decade. With the dating you folk have suggested and looking at the family tree, there is only one child who could fill the bill. I have to come to the conclusion that this was most likely my grandfather (born Jan 1876) and his mother. The family left Leicester in 1881 for Australia.

My wife has now seen the photo and thinks the woman actually has features my father had.

I'm most grateful for your help folks.     :)

Perfect.

What the printer's stamp actually says is Marion Imp. Paris (Marion Imprimateur Paris). As Jim notes they began putting a Morse-code-ish series of dots for the date in 1880.

Have a fantastic trip, and a fruitful time with your new cousins :)

Cheers,
