Carl Range Johnson
« on: Thursday 13 November 14 13:28 GMT (UK) »
Hi
Wonder if someone may be able to help, I am looking for Carl Johnson my husband's grand uncle born in 1886 Norwood area, but the family lived in  Carshalton/Sutton.
I have some information that he was married in 1910, but haven't yet confirmed this
More information says that he was killed in France 11/4/1918.
I have searched all the necessary searches on the CWGC, and military website but cannot find him
Is there someone who can help
Thank you in anticipation

Hi - he seems to have married as Charles Johnson to Mabel Fryer in Epsom district, Dec qtr 1910.  There are 5 Johnson/Fryer children registered in Epsom 1912-1920.  If he died in April 1918 then the last child (birth reg Jun qtr 1920) cannot have been fathered by him unless it was a very late registration.

Matching CWGC for the Durham Light Infantry man would be this (death was 27 May 1918):

Other records show his birthplace as Goole (where he also enlisted).

Regarding the marriage to Mabel Fryer - I can't give you information from the 1911 census due to Rootschat's rules, so am restricted on what I can tell you.

If you look up Charles & Mabel Johnson in 1911 for yourself and identify who is in the household you may find useful information.  He was born 1886 Brixton, as you will know from the 1891 census.

Bear in mind that Carl's elder sister Clara Annie Johnson married Benjamin ANTHONY in 1899.  They had several children in Sutton including, in 1907, a son named George Anthony.

(They also had a son Frank Anthony in 1903 who may be worth looking for).
