Hi Coreen

I'll look at the death records for you next time I'm at the archives and if they are likely candidates will look to see if there is any newspaper death notices, if you'd like me to.  Not sure when it'll be though

Robert Jefferson on 20/04/1844

"In Willow Holme, on the 17th instant, Robert JEFFERSON, aged 5 years." (source:  a lady has been doing newspaper BMD transcriptions on the Cumb FHS website)

Family Search website always put Burial dates as deaths and Baptisms as births.
Today I broke my personal record for most consecutive days alive.

Hi J,

That would be great & after reading the quote regarding the Robert Jefferson who died in April 1844 as being aged 5, can at least eliminate that Robert.

The JEFFERSONs of Whitehaven were heavily involved in trade with the Caribbean (slaves, rum etc).  There is a museum on their old premises http://www.rumstory.co.uk/

Hi Geoff,

Will have a look at the Whitehaven Jeffersons - although most of mine come from Carlisle.

From the British Newspaper Archive
Carlisle Patriot 29 Aug 1818
In Wigton on Sunday last, Robert Jefferson, aged 80, many years hair dresser in this city.

Don't know if this one is the right age?

Hi Robbiesmum,

I did have a look at this extract from the Carlisle Patriot & it is possible that this is the Robert Jefferson who married Anne Johnston in 1762 in St Mary's,Carlisle, although all of Robert & Anne's children were born in Carlisle, not Wigton.

Hi Coreen

I had a look at the deaths for Ann Jefferson.  There wasn't much info in the entries.

Ann Jefferson died April 1783 aged 75 widow of Denton Holme.

Ann Jefferson of Caldewgate died Feb 1805 aged 66 Widow.

There was no death notices in the local papers so no further info there.  Doesn't look like there your Anns!

Hi J,

Hope you had a great Christmas & New Year.

It's possible that the Ann who died in Caldewgate in 1805 is my Ann - she would have been born in around 1739. She married Robert Jefferson in 1762 so the ages go tie up. However,it's doubtful that i'm ever going to know for sure.

Thank you so much for all your help - it's really appreciated.

Regards

Coreen
