Born in Galway Workhouse
« on: Monday 17 November 14 19:30 GMT (UK) »
Hi I just found out that my grandparents eldest child was born in the Galway City Workhouse in 1915. My grandfather is down as living in St Brendan's Terrace. Would this be normal to be born in the workhouse instead of at home ? Was the workhouse used as a hospital ? They had only just moved to Galway from Tipperary does anyone know what the area of St Brendan's Terrace would have been like at that time

I think the St. Brendan's Terrace being referred to is in Wood Quay in Galway City rather than in Ballinasloe.
This was a terrace built for the local Mills in the early 1900s
