Edward Cecil Barton 1896-1980
« on: Wednesday 19 November 14 15:43 GMT (UK) »
Is anyone researching/related to E C Barton, author of 'Let the Boy Win His Spurs' published 1975? I am researching his WW1 friend Tom Wilmot.
Condick; Bull (Herefordshire only); Layard; Wilmot; Southgate; Fowlie (Singapore branch); Usher (Dundrum); Kelley (Lancashire);

How long are you prepared to wait until someone notices your post who is related or researching him - it may be a long time?

His birth is not obvious - not in England and Wales?

His death quotes it as 30th March 1896.

This might be his marriage, but there are other Edward Cecil's

Surrey Marriages, birth about 1896, marriage 28th July,1923, age 27, father Edward Robert Barton, married Mary Joy Norris in Richmond.

I can add that he was born in Montreal, Canada, and served with the 2nd Battalion, Worcestershire Regiment, in World War One. You are quite right, of course, it may be an entirely useless fishing expedition, but seemed worth a try!

In that case, he may be on the 1911 census as Cecil, a pupil in Devon, which does not help with his family.

Have you considered getting his death certificate in case the informant is a family member?

This looks like him, the image is faint, but I think the birth date is 30th March 1896:
1901 Canadian Census
Ed C. Barton      30 Mar  1896
Birthplace  Qc    Lodgers Son
Father's Name Ed R Bartin  (1868)  Dentist born Quebec
Mother's name Cecilla Bartin  (1871)
English  origins Nationality - Canadian  Roman Catholic
Province:    Quebec   District:    Hochelaga  Sub-District:    Westmount (City/Cité)

So that would almost definitely confirm the marriage posted.

Edward is in various public trees on ancestry.
One claims a son for him, but quotes the wife mentioned, but then gives the birth for the son in 1944, Wales, and as his eldest son, with a different wife.
They might be confusing him with this one:
Edward Cecil Barton  Birth 4 Oct 1897  Death  Jun 1978  Registration district:    Newport  Gwent

Hi

Your inital post said that you are really researching Wilmot?

Would you like to detail ALL the info that you have on both gentlemen?

Which one would you like assistance to concentrate on?
