Thanks Carole W & jan57.

What makes you think that the 1904 marriage isn't the correct Amy?

Do you mean you can't find any of the children with "the happy couple" as you refer to them!?

I can't find any of the children in the 1911 Census (Sidney would have been aged 13, Elsie 17, William 19), which I find a bit odd, but that may be down to me not searching properly (I'm using FindMyPast, which doesn't to me seem to have such good search facilities as Ancestry for example).  Lily, Mabel & Gertrude would have been in their 20's so I guess probably married.

No - I mean it's a completely different Amy and unconnected to your family

In trying to work it out, went to baptisms

Bap 01-Sep   1889   Gardner   Mabel
Birth26-Nov   1888
George Henry
Martha Shepherd
RC6/4/3   1088   Leicester, Holy Cross Priory   Roman Catholic

Think Gertrude Shepard is worth following up, she is with them 1891 and Gertrude is the name of the first daughter. It was the only baptism I could find.

Would think this is Martha and family
1871 RG10/1481/37/9

1881 RG11/1546   /145/67

and am adding this for now in case it helps later

Marriage for a Martha Shepherd Q3 1880 Northampton as she is not with the family 1881 and I can't find a likely marriage to George as yet
