DARBYSHIRE, LALEWOOD and SUMMERFIELD families
« on: Sunday 23 November 14 17:39 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I am trying to find out more information about the DARBYSHIRE, LALEWOOD and SUMMERFIELD families in Shropshire.

One of my direct ancestors is an Elisabeth DARBYSHIRE (baptised 22/11/1737 at Market Drayton)

I believe Elisabeth's parents were Edward DARBYSHIRE and Rebecca STRINGER (married 6/2/1737). There was an Edvardus (Edward) DARBYSHIRE born in DrayTon in Hales 1707, with father Samuelis (Samuel), It may be that Samuel was born in Shrewsbury and baptised at St Mary's on 26/12/1682. He may have  been married to a  Maria LALEWOOD at Adderley on 19/8/1706

From Samuel's baptism records his father was Edward Darbyshire and there is one Edward Darbyshire married on 21/4/1674 to a Mary SUMMERFIELD AT Wem

If anyone can tell me more about these families, (or tell me my information is wrong), I would be very grateful

Many Thanks

Eric

Can we ask where you received your info - ?
Familysearch has the christening as 20th Nov 1737 - not 22nd ...
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NY2T-9J1
is this her marriage to John Penrhyn ?
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NNQT-5H7

it looks like she was the eldest of 4
Elisabeth 1737
Mary 1741
Rebecca 1744
Thomas 1746
all on Familysearch and in Market Drayton father Edward
so the marriage to Rebecca Stringer 6th feb 1736 - not 1737 - in Market Drayton looks to be very likely as the second daughter is also named Rebecca
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NKCV-3NT
so from my check on Familysearch you have 2 small differences of opinion
Elisabeth is bap 20th nov 1737
Edward/Rebecca married 6th feb 1736 - not 1737 ....other than that I would think your research is fine
other members might post confirmation for you

Hi Garsonite

Thanks for the reply.

I think familysearch is incorrect. On FindMyPast there is an image, (Database: Shropshire marriages), which shows an entry for Edward and Rebecca dated 6/2/1737. Also on FindMyPast Shropshire Baptisms the date of baptism for Elisabeth is 22/11/1737, but looking at the image it appears the date you quote is right

Cheers

Eric

Hi

Just a thought re the 1736/37 discrepancy.  I think the Gregorian calendar was adopted in Britain in 1752, so that the marriage would be in Feb 1736 (old) but in Feb 1737 (Gregorian). The image on FindMyPast would show it as the old date, while FS would have it as the Gregorian date. Both are right but the calendar change has  probably resulted in the anomaly.

I've often seen Jan-March of the pre-1752 years written as  1736/37.

A transcription of the register of Adderley on medlocki reads
1706
June 25., Petr.. Boatman.......sept.   Aug 19. Sam Darbyshire et Maria Latewood utrim: de Drayton in hales..... Nup

Previous entries also show the parish people are from, so was Sam from Adderley when he married?

There could be nearby parishes whose records have been lost, so it's very hard to be certain, also parts of Staffordshire are much nearer to Adderley than Shrewsbury.

I still think your Sam, is a favourite tho.  :) :)

Hi

Thought I would  let people know I went up to Lichfield Records Office to look at some Wills.

I found an Inventory relating to a Samuel Darbyshire (1716). The Inventory has been signed at the bottom by a John Latewood. I am unsure what relationship he has with Maria Latewood though.

Regards

Eric
