Hugh Taggart. Inverness
« on: Tuesday 25 November 14 03:19 GMT (UK) »
My Great Grandfather Hugh Taggart was born in Inverness about 1879. I can find him on the 1881 census. He married Christina Hanratty in 1899 in Inverness and they are both on the 1901 census. Then he disappears, Christina dies in 1938, it says on her death certificate that her first husband was Hugh Taggart and her second husband was called Edward Wells. I can find no death record for him. I know his family were Irish travelers and I'm wondering if he returned to Ireland or if he was killed in WW1, although he would have been in his 30's
Any ideas.

Hi and welcome to Rootschat ,

Have you not been able to find Hugh on the 1911 Census?
Is Christina still in Inverness on the 1911? If so, what has she given as her marital status?
The couple obviously had a family  :). Do you know when the last child was born?
This info would help narrow the window of your search.

I looked at www.cwgc.org but couldn't find a Hugh Taggart who died pre-1915 (when Christina appears to have remarried) .

Looby :)

Looking at a family tree and Scotlandspeople , Children ?

Christina Taggart b. 1900 Inverness , Inverness
Margaret Taggart b. 1902 Inverness , Inverness
Patrick Taggart b. 1904 Inverness , Inverness

That may help to find the family in 1911  :-\

Added -
Possible death for Patrick Taggart 1904 Inverness , Inverness , born c1904
Christina Taggart 1900 death Inverness , Inverness , born c1900  :(

So maybe just Margaret alive in 1911 ?
