Does anyone know where this was/is?

My 4xgreat grandfather was born there in 1794

I take it you are referring to John Thomson?

Can you give us some more clues if you have any? For example, where did his family live? Where were his siblings were born?

Did John appear on any censuses and if so what do they give for his place of birth?

Just trying to narrow down a likely area.  :)

I have found a few references to Blackdyke/Black dyke but none in Perthshire. Where did you get this place name from?

I am wondering if it may be a farmstead or smallholding, which is why I would be interested to know whereabouts in Perthshire it might have been. It may be necessary to scan some maps around the area your family was living, which may pick up this place name.

I believe blackdyke was in muthill. I was looking back on this family last night and was trying to work out what or where exactly blackdyke was with no success.

There are a number of Blackdykes around all over Scotland in the period. You have your OPR entry for Muthill, which is where this one has to be  :)
