Hi again, I think he is still with his brother and mother in 1901 age incorrectly shown as 23 on my site, still as Roberts, just wondering if this is him what made him revert to the Hunkin surname?
Census Ref RG13/2213/11/14

If he is living in Cliff Street in 1911 then it looks like his mother/brother etc are close by.

I'm heading to the library today so will check the 1911 census for Albert Hunkin Roberts. If he's there then we can eliminate him as plain old Albert Hunkin. If he's not there then I think we might have our man. If they are the same person then somewhere between 1901 and 1904, when he married, he dropped the Roberts. Did his parents finally marry so he dropped the Roberts? Did he want to avoid the stigma of illegitimacy so dropped the Roberts (though if that were the case why didn't he move from the area and start a new life)? Did he establish a relationship with his father and dropped the Roberts? We'll never know I guess.

 :) I love a good mystery.

I'd say so. Too bad the Notes part doesn't have the month. The 19 and the 1873 parts fit though. I really do think we've got our guy.

Do you think that the '19' should read as 1.9 ... 1st September ?

When the gal I'm doing this for gave me the initial info she said Hunkin was like Smith/Jones in Mevagissey.

I think the person that recorded the baptism left off June or July. According to the person I got the original info from Albert Hunkin was born 19 June 1873. According to birth records Albert Hunkin Roberts was born in the Sept qrt 1873 which would have included July. It would have been easy for anyone giving the info on a death record to get the month wrong, if that's where the gal I'm doing this for got the birth date.

Hi again, my opinion, he was born 19th June 1873 but registered in July as a birth?

How quick were people about registering births back then? It took them 3 years to get him baptized. If they registered the birth on 1 July 1873 that's only 12 days after the birth and would still be in the Sept qtr.

Hi again, all births have to be registered within 42 days, baptism possibly hours/days/months/years later?

So if Albert were born 19 June 1873 it would have been within the time limits to register him before the end of July. I guess I'm not seeing a problem here. Am I missing something?
