Cheadle Parish Church - Records of Find my Past?
« on: Sunday 30 November 14 18:05 GMT (UK) »
My understanding was that all Cheshire parish records between the year dot and the early 20th century were on FindMyPast but I can't find those for Cheadle - including several for ancestors I have precise dates for already.

I know they have copies at Stockport Library but has anyone else found/not found Cheadle records on FindMyPast or able to offer an explanation?

It's possible that because the records for Cheadle etc. are held at Stockport they are not on FindMyPast and the ones that are on are held by Cheshire County Council (which has now been split into Cheshire East and Chester West & Chester).

The only records FindMyPast have for Cheadle are burials 1871-1982
Births and Deaths haven't been added although some of them can be found as you will be aware on Family Search.
The ones that I have are from Parish records or the Cprdb website.

Hi

According to Genuki the original registers for Cheadle St Mary are held at the Cheshire Record Office. http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/chs/churches/cheadle-st%20mary.html

My understanding as that there are 2 or 3 Cheshire Parishes whose  Parish Register images are not on Findmypast because permission has been refused by the current incumbant, and Cheadle St Mary rings a bell as being one of them.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I was aware that the registers were held by Cheshire Archives and simply assumed that everything they had had been supplied to FindMyPast - at least that's what they told me was about to happen the last time I visited them.

I suppose its possible that the current "recumbant" isn't prepared to let the rest of the world have ready access to "their" records but this begs the question of what's happened to the Bishop's transcripts?

If I get chance, I'll email the archives, ask them to clarify and I'll reprt back.

I contacted FindMyPast to ask about Cheadle Cheshire Records
I thought you might be interested in the reply which reads......

"Having checked the  Cheshire Diocese Of Chester Bishop's Transcripts Baptisms
1576-1906 for Cheadle at this side, we do have records between 1627-1888
In regards to the Marriages, we have coverage of records for the year 1628-1837
for Cheadle.
Our parish records are a work in progress and we are frequently adding new
records on the site, so marriage records after 1837, for Cheadle, may be made
available in the future."

You'll also find this when Ancestry works with record offices, they started putting the LMA collection online in 2009 and there are still large gaps and transcriptions attributed to incorrect parishes. When asked about missing pages they reply it is not a priority.

The same goes for FindMyPast and Westminster Archives, still waiting for the Westminster collection to be completed.
