Thank you again - this is great - maybe I should try & find this book!

Jillie

It should be available here -

http://www.scotsgenealogy.com/Shop.aspx

I'll try to send more MIs later but today is going to be a disrupted day as we have workmen coming in to replace all our radiators so each room in the house will eventually become a no-go area!

no.743 [it's a very long one, but mentions] Ann Hall d Viewbank House 13.2.1904  63, (wid of James Landale).

now the spelling Landel -

no.132  Jas Wallace 18.9.1826  79, w Cath Landel 4.4.1837, s Geo 25.12.1848  66, s David d Stravithie Cotton 19.5.1821  23, s Jas 3.7.1821  28 both after long illness, by da Jean. [Cotton means a "cot-toun", a small farm with cottages for the "cotters" or crofters].

no.536  Thos Landel 16.(1).1820  8(0), w Jean Fortune.

Your ancestors couldn't have a more romantic setting for their last resting-place. In its heyday St. Andrews Cathedral, now in ruins, was the biggest church in Scotland, built along the same lines as Durham Cathedral. It sits on a headland looking out to sea. The 19th c. artist Sam Bough did some atmospheric paintings of the cathedral ruins, e.g.

So much information is available online these days, it makes a nice change to be able to help somebody by quoting from a printed book.

Here are some more images of the cathedral and its precincts for you.

Hi Kirsty

That would be great - thank you.

Our Fairfoul/Fairfulls may well be connected as I see you also list PULLARS too - so we must connect somewhere!

Thanks for the photo Kirsty.

I was really pleased to be given the information regarding the MI for Thomas Fairfoul & Ann Landale as I was getting very confused. I had been pretty sure I had these as the right parents for 'my' James Fairfoul until I found an entry in the St Andrews Deeds on the Fife FHS page that said the eldest (surviving) son of Thomas & Ann was a JOHN. The baptism & burials show that James was older than John so if John was the eldest then James must have died (& therefore couldn't be 'my' James)!

Which branch of Fairfouls are you following?
