Death of Harriet Beamont after 1871
« on: Wednesday 03 December 14 01:55 GMT (UK) »
Hi All,
I have been serching for this lady,  Harriet Beamont /Beaumont who would be my 3 x great grand aunt. Last positive record is the 1871 census living at Belmont terrace St Peter Port, aged 65, a bit of a mystery is place of birth (Calutta) but daughter Eliza Jane Beamont (Beaumont) place of birth has been consistent as Brighton Sussex through the censuses. Also a SON Thomas aged 5???
In the 1861 census H.Emily Beamont is residing in Kidderminster,Worcestershire, seamtress born in Sydney, New South Wales. ( Her maiden name was Evans.)
Daughter Eliza Jane is Nicolle by the 1881 census and living in Swansea Wales with Edwin Jarvarin Nicolle and 2 sons . Harriet isn't living with them. From Baptism records of Eliza and Edwins children they were in Swansea by 1873.
Any help with local records would be wonderful
Thanks, Kerri

Think it's a  transcription error on the census forms
On the 1871 it says Harriet born 1806 Calverton and 1861 she is born 1806 looks like somewhere in Wales ?

Does Thomas age 5 belong to Eliza?

Certainly reads like Calcutta in 1871.  And Sydney N S Wales in 1861 goodness how far flung.

Where is she from in 1851?

Hi

I am not sure if this is anything to do with the Australian connection

Hi All,
Thanks for your replies.  The 1861 census place of birth is correct and yes MargP that is her husband.   ( John Beamont for others :) )
I have recently read his  will   which indicated Harriet was in the UK and Named Eliza Jane  as her adopted daughter .I don't know when Harriet arrived in the UK. I have followed Eliza Jane & Edwin Nicolle to  Berkshire where she died in 1910.Edwin dies in 1885.
Thomas A Beamont  5 yrs  1871census  doesn't appear with Eliza & Edwin so don't  know what happened  to him either. ??? And yes could easily have be Eliza's baby.....
Thanks again for yor interest, Kerri

Hi

Have you checked for a Death or a Will for Harriet in, Guernsey, I think that they have there own BMD Index, it maybe that Eliza left Guernsey, after mother died, and went to Berkshire.

It is more likely that Thomas A, was adopted also, and both of them changed there names to Beamont, I can't see any Birth record for either of them

On Eliza's marriage does it give a fathers name

I can't see the marriage for Eliza Jane either.
First child born in Swansea Dec 1873 Graham Beaumont Nicolle.

Maybe they married in Guernsey as I see her husband was there in 1871.
As an aside his birthplace is interesting as well.

Hi All,
I have not come across a marriage of Eliza Jane Beamont and Edwin Javarin Nicolle
Possible that took place in Swansea ?
Yes Rosie,I have quite alot of information on Harriets  father, mother and siblings. Her father married twice so many of them  :)
I haven't found a death in Australia for Harriet no mention of her in Tasmanian records where her husband lived.Hence my post here in the hope Harriet may died in St Peters Port. I guess she could have gone to Swansea with Eliza and Edwin and died there before the next census ??
Thanks Kerri
