Help needed to identify church in Oxon or Bucks
« on: Wednesday 03 December 14 10:42 GMT (UK) »
Hi - can anyone help me identify the church in the attached picture, please? My g/grandfather Frank Morton Jeffs is second row, second from left, fair hair with whiskers.  Date of picture and his age not known, but he was born 1867 in Buckingham and was living in Warkworth / Grimsbury area of Banbury from 1885 and Gawcott, Bucks thereafter from about 1898.  I have also posted this on the Bucks county topic forum. My web search has been unsuccessful, so any help will be much appreciated.
Buckingham/Gawcott/Bucks - Jeffs; Bedfordshire - Morton; Oxon - Budd; Northampton - Cox; Duncton/Chichester/Sussex - Shepherd and Souter; Dublin, Brighton, Chiswick - Carthy.

Why not try the Oxford family History Society as one of thier members may be able to help you - for the web page just type OFHS into google & that will find them

All the very best

Hi

I am going to take a punt that it may be St Leonard's Church, Grimsbury, Banbury, Oxfordshire. Any photo I can find suggests it may be, but I cannot get a comparable photo in which to compare the gutter boxes which are quite distinctive in your picture. Yet I feel sure they may have been changed over the years. We need some one to take a walk around the church and see if there is a match - the windows are almost identical.
Good luck

Here is one,

I always write to the photographer and ask them despite this being Creative Commons. It's nice to ask and the photographer is always so pleased.

I haven't gone through this, but you may discover something here about your church.

I am now convinced that it is St. Leonards and I really appreciate all your replies to my query.  Thanks again and best wishes.
