Richard POULTNEY - Iron Puddler
« on: Wednesday 03 December 14 14:04 GMT (UK) »
Hi everyone

Trying to find the baptism of Richard Poultney b Shropshire c1811, exact place unknown
Father William POULTNEY, engineer

This  is what I have found so far ... .

Children  with Rebekah BIRD ..... Sarah 1838 (d1844), Rebekah 1839 (d1844), Rachel 1840, John Abraham 1841 (d1844), Thirza 1843, Edward 1844 (d1845), Edwin 1848,

Children with Ann  BUMFORD    ..... Richard 1850, Sarah A 1852, Hannah 1854, Robert W 1856, Susan 1860, Matilda 1862.

1837 Jan marriage Rebekah BIRD at Madeley , no age given

1841 Census Stirchley  forgeman,  aged 36 (should be 30?) Shropshire, born in county

1847 Death of Rebekah,  burial at Stirchley

1848 Sept  remarriage, widower, forgeman, to Ann BUMFORD at Stirchley, full age,
father William POULTNEY, engineer

1851 Census  Dawley, puddler, aged 39 b Salop

1861 Census Glasgow Scotland, iron puddler, aged 49, born England

1864 May Death in Sheffield, aged 53 Bridge End, Attercliffe
Burial at Burngreave Cem, Sheffield  & noted on M.I. at St James  in Stirchley.

Ann POULTNEY remarried William THOMPSON & have all data on that 1871 onwards.

Have tried under various spellings POLTNEY, PULTNEY etc etc

Does anyone know anything about the POULTNEY family please?

Couple of public trees on Ancestry are no help

Any suggestions as to where a possible Baptism for Richard may be found?

Are there Methodist registers that may not be on FMPast?

Thanks for that idea, it is Poultney but have been checking under Pountney and anything else I can think of as well.

Thanks rosie99

He says his father is William on 2nd marriage certificate and always says Shropshire as birth county so I think this is probably not the right one

Just wish he'd been a bit more specific as to where in Shrophire  ::)

1841 - in Hollinswood [?] Shifnal district.

Will Poultney    60 - engineer
Hannah Poultney    55
John Poultney    20
Hannah Poultney    15
Mary Poultney    13

HO107, 909, 24, 2

1851 - again in Hollingswood

William Portney    72 - b Willy, Salop. Engine worker
Hannah Portney    66 - b Brace Meole, Salop
Edward Groom    37 - visitor
Hannah Groom    29 - visitor, b Shifnal [I suspect this is their daughter]

HO107, 1987, 300, 37

There's a good match for John from 1841 on 1851, place of birth Shifnal. Also on 1851 a Sarah Poultney b Hollinswood c1818. SO I would guess Richard could be from the same place?
