James Youngs/Margaret Kelly
« on: Sunday 07 December 14 15:46 GMT (UK) »
I'm looking for family of James Youngs (born 1826-1830?) and Margaret Kelly from Westmeath.  This is what I've found so far.  They married in 1851 in the parish of Ballymore. They immigrated to Bridgeport, CT in the US around 1879. The children's names were Mary Youngs b.1853, Catharine b.1855, Ellen Youngs b.1862, Thomas Youngs b1864, Elizabeth Youngs b.1866, James Youngs b.1867, Theresa Youngs b.1872, Rose Youngs b.1874/76, Patrick (Joseph) Youngs b.1876/77. Four other children went to Australia. James and Margaret are my great grandparents and Patrick (also called Joseph)was my grandfather. He married Marie Ridolf had three children..Joseph, Rose, and Agatha (my mother) and lived in New Haven CT US.

Do the death certificates for James and Margaret not list the names of their parents? Most Conneciticut certificates do so.

I've just started my search and will have to get the death certificates.  I know they died here in CT but now sure on the town.  What is the best  way to obtain these records?  Can it be done on-line?

A copy of a certified Connecticut vital record may be obtained directly from:
      1. the TOWN where the event occurred, or
      2. from the STATE Vital Records Office

http://www.bridgeportct.gov/content/89019/95959/96141/96152.aspx
Be sure to scroll down through the 1st link to see other options. It used to be that if you were a member of a Conn. historical society then you could view the vital records for a particular town (usually held in the Town Hall) but I'm not sure if that still holds.

In 1880 the family is living in Bridgeport. By the next available census in 1900 Maggie (widowed) & some of the children were living Highland Ave., Bridgeport. I think you will need to check some of the dates you've posted.

Thank you so much for the links to help in my search!  I missed the census in 1900 with the reference to Maggie
but it will clear up some of the misinformation I had.

There is a family tree that says James died 19 June 1883 in Bridgeport with a funeral at St Augustine's Church, and Margaret died 1904 in Bridgeport.  No sources are given for these, though.
