Wimborne Parish Registers
« on: Monday 08 December 14 16:02 GMT (UK) »
Hello,
I would like to ask a question and I feel I probably know the answer already but I just wanted to confirm my thoughts.

I have a chap on the census (living in Nottingham) who states his birth place as Wimborne, Dorset.

I am knew to Wimborne researching - I believe though that there were 3 Parishes, is that right?

Do you know if people would put Wimborne and actually mean somewhere in the region of?

Thank you, :)

Wimborne Minster is the main town.

And the last question,
People would sometimes put the nearest market town, Or the precise house, but sometimes it can vary widely from one census to the next, not always very reliable.

Thank you, Stevie Stevie.
sadly I can't afford ancestry at the mo - but all is not lost as I am very local to TNA and there is always the IGI.
(Mind you I have taken out ancestry's trial subscription... ahem...more than once)

Hi,

Dorset FHS have transcribed parish registers for the Wimborne parishes.

Research requests:

Many libraries have a subscription to Ancestry; some have Find My Past which also has Dorset records.

Is this the Thomas Elliott, 76, who was living in Tibshelf? if so, in 1881 he gives his age as 44, and place of birth as Witchampton, which is just north of Wimborne.

A Thomas Elliott was born in 1837, base born son of Mary; but it may not be him. At the moment I can't find him until 1874 when he marries Ann Savage (a widow), but he may have had a different name if his mother married after 1837.
