John Robins chr 1 July 1810 Mevagissey, Cornwall
« on: Tuesday 09 December 14 17:51 GMT (UK) »
Is John Robins chr 1 July 1810, Mevagissey, Cornwall the same John Robins listed in the 1841 census married to Diana with children Mary age 5, Thomas aged 2. The ages for John and Diana are listed as 30 but with the rounding on ages done in 1841 those are probably not exact.

I tried to look up John and Diana's marriage on the OPC but it came up nothing. I do have them married as 3 July 1836, Mevagissey, Cornwall. This according to FamilySearch.org copy of the parish records. John married Diana Philip daughter of William Philip and Mary ?Brokenshaw.

The John Robins chr 1 July 1810 is the son of William Robins and Mary Mitchell.

I've seen family trees with John son of William and Mary but they don't have a wife or children listed.

Any help is appreciated.

1851 shows Diana & children but no John.  Diana is shown as married - rope makers wife.  Same in 1861

If he is he's not with his family. Diana is listed as Head but still married. Same with the 1861 census. 1871 Diana is listed as widow. So apparently John died sometime between 1861 and 1871. Can't find a death record for him with certainty.

You're correct. Not sure where I got the Thomas from.

First daughter Diana Caroline died 1844 - another daughter Diana Caroline b 1852 so I wonder if John worked on ships and was at sea hence no census entry.

He may also have died at sea.  It doesn't help that deaths in the early 1860's don't show ages

I did find a death record for a John Robins - Place - Bodmin, Church - St Petroc, Burial Date - 12 Dec 1861, Forename - John, Surname - Robins, age 52, Abode - Asylum (of Mevagissey), Notes - died 9th

Don't really think this is my guy though.

Did rope makers live on ship?

I wouldn't have thought so - I have always assumed it was a land based job but it seemed to be the only explanation for his absence.

If he was the John in the asylum -Diana's birth was registered September qtr 1852 so her conception was around late 1851/early 1852. He couldn't have been in the asylum at that time so where was he in 1851?

(Assuming Diana was his child??)
