Michael Owens, Clones, Monaghan
« on: Thursday 11 December 14 21:52 GMT (UK) »
My great-great-grandfather, James Owens, was born between 1825 and 1831 in Clones, Monaghan to father Michael Owens.  James moved to Co Durham, England sometime before his marriage in 1857 but I don’t know if Michael also moved or remained in Ireland.  I have no information about Michael other than he worked as a labourer.  Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

Just in case back in  1829-1832
http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/results.jsp?surname=owens&firstname=&county=Monaghan&townland=&parish=&search=Search&sort=&pageSize=&pager.offset=40
Among 45 Owens I just note two for your thoughts. the first because it’s the only Clones based Owens
Owens   James   Melgins Clones Monaghan 1832 when I looked this up I couldn’t find any Owens  at ref 1944 there is a James Rep which could mean James Owens has died and he had 1 acre. if so and he a very young son, that person Michael could have been brought up  elsewhere and if not happy with home of famines might have emigrate later, or allowed to stay with his mum etc etc

Owens    Mich   Carnaveagh   Aghnamullen   Monaghan 1829 The entry when looked up shows the area of each farm
1. Hugh Jackson 40 acres
2. Jos h Cunninhham 39 acres
3. John Owens 3 acres
4. Michael Owens 2 acres
5. Thomas Owens 4 +acres
Notes 2 acres wouldn’t support a family so he could be a farm labourer to 1 or 2.
Notes Aghnamullen civil parish is SSE of Clones travelling through Kileevan , Aghabog, and Ematris SSE of Clones notes Clones is also part of Dartree something Each have Owens living at this time.
Notes there are Owens listed in  Kileevan, [Killeevan], Aghabog, and Ematris
Hoping something new for you  Good luck onwards BallyaltikilliganG

Many thanks, BallyaltikilliganG.  This looks interesting.  The entry about Michael Owens having 2 acres might fit with him being a labourer (as was given as his occupation on his son's marriage certificate).  I'll try and dig further!
