Hi

I think they may have had a child before Richard. On the 1861 there is a Mary Butterton with the family bc1838. On the 1851 she appears to be working as a servant in Ruabon aged 13.

On the GR transcription they are listed as Batterton in 1861. Apart from John (Head) and Elizabeth (Wife) no relationships are given for the rest of the family but appear to all be children of John & Elizabeth. It also says that Elizabeth was born in Ruabon, not Shropshire?

Heaven knows where they are hiding in 1841!

Well thanks.I'm afraid I didn't notice the Mary born c 1838.As far as the 1841 Census,I should have made it clear on my first message that the entire 1841 for this area is lost.

Strange one, Roger  ???

The parish records show Elizabeth Bradley marrying John Edwards on 24th October 1835 in Wrexham.  Same vicar.

Is the newspaper report correct or did Edwards become Butterton? (Added - looks as if this was the case!)

Added - which newspaper was it?

I've got something interesting here, WR, just found it:

Ruabon 29 June 1836 Selina Butterton EDWARDS d/o John (carpenter) and Elizabeth. Abode Cefn Mawr.

Suggest that John might have changed his name!

Also Mary Butterton EDWARDS 4 Oct 1837. Same parents -  John now a joiner!

Looks as if he changed from Edwards to Butterton circa 1840!
