ROGERS - Weston u P, Pencoed, Llandinabo
« on: Sunday 03 July 05 11:17 BST (UK) »
Hi Everyone - I have a lot of info on my Rogers family thanks to part of the family becoming Mormons and heading West to Utah, USA, a few remained in the Weston
under Penyard district, (Pontshill, Dancing Green, Lea Bailey) my G-Grandmother being one, the family can be traced back to Llandinabo where there are several grave stones, the earliest being 1590.  There were links by marriage to Gwillim, Wilks.  interested to here from anyone who may have links to this lot. cheers Fred

I have a few possibles:

John Rogers married Margaret and their children, all born in Llandinabo were:

Mary b. 1761
Margaret b.1763
William b. 1766
Thomas b. 1768
Richard b. 1772
John b. 1777

Thomas, who is my 4xG Grandfather died in Weston under Penyard in 1839.  Hemarried Jane Gwillim in 1799.  Are these the Rogers you are looking for?

Best wishes

Tony

Started serious research of my wife's ancestors 3 months ago and to date have uncovered 636 direct relatives ... including Thomas Rogers (born c1769 Llandinabo) her 3rd great-grandfather, plus the Utah LDS connection.  Happy to share and expand on the info uncovered to date.

Gill's descent is through Hannah's sister Elizabeth :

Elizabeth b. 6 Jan 1841 Lea
m. Ephraim Hurcombe b. c1834 Dursley

Their daughter Mary Hurcombe b. 26 Apr 1880 Gloucester
m. Daniel Henry Edwards b. 13 Oct 1881 Penydarran, M.T., Glamorgan

Their son Thomas Henry Ronald Edwards
b. 11 Mar 1910 Bargoed
d. 5 Nov 1968 Southampton

is Gill's father (only referred to as Gillian by her mother who is still living!)

I know that it has been a year and a half since anyone posted to this subject.  But I have recently started looking into my Roger's line.

I am looking for a last name for Thomas Roger's(1769 Llandinabo) wife, Jane.  Some of you mentioned that he had married a Jane Gwilliam.  Do you have proof of that??

I did find an extracted marriage record on Familysearch.org that listed a Thomas Rogers and Jane Willim married in St Peters,Hereford, England 7 Feb 1799.  Could that be the same couple???

If so I would very much like to communicate with any of you who would like to share information.

Hi Alane -  Yes the Rogers tree is well documented as part of the Rodgers family became Mormons and moved to the US.  I'm in touch with the families there.  John Rogers, son of Thomas and Jane died quite young, but his eldest daughter and widow moved to Utah.   Both sons, not Mormons, George and William moved to Ohio, William had one daughter, he returned to GB.  George had a large family and they are still in Ohio, but now spell Rogers with a "D"  Rodgers.   Lot's of info at Familysearch   Last time I looked son Enoch Rogers is absent from the list of children Thomas and Jane had.

Jane died in 1851 just after the census, she is living at the time with her daughters in Weston under Penyard.

This link should give you plenty of info -

The link above doesn't work.   Go to ancestral file.  Enter Benjamin Meek, and Benjamin Rogers Meek will be second from the top.  You can explore the family tree from there.

It doesn't give Jane's surname Gwillim.   And says buried Bury Hill, which is where the family lived near Weston UP.  I would imagine she is buried in Weston?

Dear Fred,
I am from that Mormon line who came to Utah.  Louisa Rogers who married Benjamin Meek is my 3rd great grandmother from her second husband Andrew Jackson Allen.  Do you know what Jane's , wife of Thomas, last name was.
Thank you for your response to my post.
