My view is that it is an old estate lodge and could well have been associated with Cilcain Hall. The only thing that goes against this theory is the entry on Wikipaedia for Cilcain Hall:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cilcain_Hall

This states that John Douglas designed both Cilcain Hall and the lodge on the main road but the latter no longer exists.

I found a website dedicated to Cilcain: http://www.cilcaintoday.org.uk/page2.html Any good contacting the webmaster and asking for information?

There are some old maps available for this area: http://www.francisfrith.com/locations/cilcain-hall/maps

Some photos as well:

I know that one of the bodies who deal with historic buildings are interested in some of the old places at Cilcain. Not sure the name of it though. The RO would be able to help on this one.

I wish I could visit the place but am too far away these days, more's the pity.

Jo.
