Birth Baptism & Death Tom/Thomas Bell
« on: Wednesday 17 December 14 00:27 GMT (UK) »
I give in, I have square eyes and no idea why i cant find this man's details.

My Great grandfather:
Thomas Bell born Radcliffe Notts 1844 have poss registration for that but cannot find exact date?
wife Charlotte nee Oxley bc 1847, married 1867 (found that one!)
Father George Bell bc 1796
Mother Elizabeth bc 1800
 I have 1851, 1861 census,
1871 he was away working, probably on the railroads as his profession is shown as Railway inspector on my grandfathers signing up papers in 1917.
on 1881 Cenus he was at 2 Western Road Tottenham.
1891 Charlotte is alone and listed as head of household... but not widowed? address 17 Lichfield road Finchley.
1901 census Charlotte is shown as widowed, which narrows the search to 1882 to 1901!
Cant find anything in BMd, except for a possible in 1879 but as no details are listed other than where he died I cant work it out. I have tried for mis-transcription still cant find it?
I would be very grateful if one of you masters tracks him down.

I also tried finding his work record for the railways, but apart from Charlotte being in Finchley London in her latter years , I don't know who he worked for/or where ,  Thanks in anticipation!

That certainly ticks all the boxes BUT that blows out of the water my birth date of 1844. this was always C based on cenusus(ii/es?!). I had found a Thomas in 1844 but the birth register doesnt give you enough info to be sure, now I cant find a birthdate to go with that baptism :(]

LOoks good just check his marriage details is birth 1842.

so now I need his birth record too.

Hi all,
I'm hoping this thread will come back to the top of the pile by adding to it!?
I have found Tom Bell's probate, he died in 1900, and i also now know from my grandfather's marriage certificate that he was a  railway inspector. is it possible to find his railway records? He would appear to have worked building the railways and i believe there are few records of those people, but once he got to inspector shouldnt he show up some where? in 1881 he was living in London with his wife and family. For the life of me i cannot find him in 1891, his wife was in london with the children but again he wasnt with them :(.  Any ideas as to where to look to fill in a couple more gaps?

Thank you  RC gurus
