NEWTON family
« on: Wednesday 24 December 14 16:51 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to make contact with the descendents of Sarah Newton who lived around Alton Pancras and died in the 1920's. Late in her life she re-married. That time to my relation George Foot of Up Cerne and it would be good to share any photo's and stories.

Mark - you need to include a lot more info about Sarah to help readers establish a connection (ie) names/birthyears/birthplaces of her children from her first marriage and whether she had any children by George Foot

Have you confirmed it was the right marriage?  I only gave you the reference earlier this evening as a possibility.

Have you confirmed she was a widow when she married?

Sarah was married I believe to robert newton, her father was stephen long. I believe in 1891 she was living at buckland newton. She was born around 1854 at kingston deverill, wilts. Married george goot 7.12.1917 when she was 65. She had several children with robert, they were james, ernest, robert, ethel, walter. Years ago I lost all my records but I believe that her ist husband robert died at cerne workhouse.

I think you mean 1916?

You can look for marriages/deaths for the Newton children using freebmd and the 1911 census

There is a possible death in 1923 for Sarah - same year you give for George's death

If you want to make contact with living people, then you need to see if she is in anyone's tree in ancestry, or genes,or similar sites.
As you say that she was born in 1854, then in 160 years there could be many descendants, but they could all have very different surnames, and be very difficult to trace.
If you are content to wait for years until someone recognises your posting here, OK, otherwise you need to go out and track her family children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren etc etc down.

This is the only Sarah Newton born in Wiltshire from 1852 to 1856, (Mere is the correct area)

Births September quarter 1856  Sarah Jane Newton Mere  5a    225

If you are trying to track down relatives you need to be as accurate as possible on dates.

Added:
Apologies, you said her father was surname Long.

But if this is her, year out on date:
Births September quarter 1853   Sarah Long  Mere  5a 199

You appear to have her ancestry already from the info you give above.

You know the names etc of her children and their birthyears and birthplaces so can now use freebmd and the 1911 census to establish their marriages and children up to that time

Going forward from 1911 will be difficult and I would suggest you choose just one male child from her marriage and follow him through rather than trying to research all of them.

If you then find a living descendant of that child, they may be able to give you more info about the others
