With the above baptism found I was able to determine that, that is indeed Josette Finlay's baptism.  It puts her in the same place at the same time as Jacques Finlay according to HBC records.

Also I was able to find the baptism records for her first 4 children.  It's all consistent.

I know that in 1901 they began putting race on the census forms.  I thought if I found one of them I could use that to send to the MNO.  The problem is, I can not find a single one of them in any census records aside from Louis Pion in 1825.

If anyone has a few moments, I would greatly appreciate it, if any of the following people can be found in the 1901 census.  I'm looking to see if they are marked as Indian, Indien, B (breed), Metis, etc.

Julie Sophie Pion b. 1817
Louis Andre Pion b. 1818
Joseph Gedeon Pion b. 1821
Joseph Pion b. 1829
David Pion b. 1831
Marie Louise Pion (perrier) b. 1834 - my direct line.  Her daughter Marie louise Myers is indicated as english in 1901.

As always, thank you all for any help you may be able to provide.

Hi again.

Glad things are coming together. I'll have a look at the 1901 census tomorrow....too late for my tired eyes tonight.

Thanks PB.  I've looked with no success but maybe a set of fresh eyes could help.

Hi Keith:

You've probably already seen this Pion family on the 1901 Census, but thought I'd mention it. The dates are off by a few years for Joseph and Julie.

It will be interesting to see what polarbear finds.

Hi Sammi,

I have seen this one and have flagged it for future search as it is possible it's my Joseph Pion who's the father of this household.  However it's indicated that he's french so for this particular search it doesn't show what I'm trying to prove.

I notice you are searching Walkers.  You're not linked to the Walker family from the beginnings of Orangeville Ontario are you?  That's my wife's family.

No sorry - all my Walkers - so far at least - are in Warwickshire. When they started to move around they ended up in South Africa and western Canada.

Hi again.

Have looked through your tree and at the 1901 census....

I have noted the reference to Marie Louise Myers being English in the 1901 census and her mother being French. Someone may correct me but it is my experience when looking at the census that children seem to be listed according to what their fathers are. So Marie Louise Myers would be down as English b/c her father is. You can, of course, trace Marie Louise Perrier (mother) back to Louis Pion and Josette Finlay. I believe the reference to her being French would have come from her father. I think that if the same rules were applied to all the children of Louis and Josette back in the day, they would all be considered to be French.

I have not been able to find any trace of David and you know Cecile died in 1852. I don't see Sophie going forward either....she may have died in (I think) 1853 but there isn't enough info in the burial record to say if it is her for sure. I will look through the other lines to see if anything turns up other than French anywhere but it seems doubtful at this point, unfortunately.

Hi PB,

Thanks for taking a peek.  Mysterious indeed.  Hopefully the MNO takes what I have given them.  Her marriage certificate has James Finlay's signature which is either Jacques' brother or nephew.  They were pretty affluent members so I may be able to find another signature and match them.

Anyone ever do any research into the Beaver Club?

In case someone does have time; the Pion's at time were referred to as Peon.  They also had a dit name of Lafontaine.  I have been told that Canadian or Canadien may also be code for Metis.
