Christopher Stephenson, born circa 1791 COMPLETED
« on: Friday 26 December 14 12:08 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for a baptism record for Christopher Stephenson, born circa 1791, probably in the Newmarket area. His father might have been a baker.

He married Mary Ann Chambers on 18 May 1820 at St Mary's, Newmarket.

Any assistance on this one would be very much appreciated  :)

The baptism Rosie17 has found would tie in with a burial in 1860 Newmarket on the National burial index
I can't see the family in 1851 though  :-\

Thank you Rosie and Rosie - that looks like him.

I haven't got them in 1851 either, and was rather assuming that he had died between 1841 and 1851.

The 1860 burial looks promising though ... I'll look for the death and see if the certificate proves it to be the right one (hopefully I'll recognize the informant  :)  )

It is quite likely they both died in 1860 both buried Newmarket Cemetery

Death March qtr 1860
Stephenson    Mary Ann
Newmarket    3b   382
(buried 29 March age 66)

Death September qtr 1860
Stephenson    Christopher
Newmarket    3b   285
(buried 11 July age 74)

I could not see them in 1851 but will have another look. In 1841 they are a few doors down from my extended family some of whom ran a training stable.  ;D

Rosie -

Thanks for that.

Interestingly, some of the Stephensons (but none of my direct ancestors) WERE involved with racehorse training (although I guess that can be said of most extended families in Newmarket in the 19th century).

My own line were bakers and hoteliers.

Incidentally, are you sure you have the death registration reference for Christopher correct? It seems a bit of a long interval between death and burial if his death was registered in September quarter (i.e. July, August, September) but he wasn't buried until 7 November!!
