George Williams
« on: Friday 26 December 14 16:12 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for a George Williams who was born in Bedfordshire around 1863, I have found him in the 1911 census living in Manchester with his wife Annie(who he married in 1906) and their 2 children, I found him in the 1901 census living as a boarder in Manchester with the Richardson family but I cannot find him in any census's before that, and cannot find any birth details.
Suggestions would be welcome.
Thank You

You may need the marriage cert to confirm who his father is.

Marriage certificate has told me that George's father was called Henry Williams, who was deceased when George married Annie Stoneley. The marriage took place in November 1906 and George was 41 years old, so maybe born in 1865 rather than 63. Still cannot find any birth details, I did find George Williams christening record 6th of feb 1865 in Holy Trinity, Paddington, parents Henry & Caroline, or 9th of feb, 1865 born in St Elizabeth, Jamaica, parents Henry & Eleanor. I cannot find George in any other census than the 1911 & 1901, unless he changed his mind as to where he was born!!

The West Indian derivation may be the better bet, as on 1911 census in column Nationality of every person born on a Foreign Country he states British Subject but doesn't say that this was by parentage or being naturalised. Other Uk born residents leave the column blank.

Thanks I did wonder about that, when he stated he was a british subject, where would I be able to find out if he was born in Jamaica?

Have you followed these two Georges through census to discount them.

Nothing to back this thought up but did wonder if perhaps George's father was in the Army in Kempston, hence the Bedford birth place.  :-\

I'm not convinced that either of the 1865 baptisms is the right Henry, although the Paddington one seems to indicate that the father was from Biggleswade Beds judging by subsequent censuses. I looked at this a few days ago, but had to drop it as I had to fly back to Bedford urgently and haven't picked it up again since getting back 2 days ago.
