Joseph Wren of Crossthwaite, buried but no record of dying.
« on: Saturday 27 December 14 17:48 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
I am looking for help tracing the death certificate for my 4x Great Grandfather Joseph Wren. His burial record shows that he was buried on the 11th November 1846 at Borrowdale Crossthwaite, Cumberland and that he was aged 87. Unfortunately I can't locate a death record for him.

His wife Nancy had predeceased him by twenty years and in 1841 he was living in Rossthwaite, Crossthwaite, Cumberland - HO107/156/3/8/11

There is a Joseph Wren who died Mar 1846 in Cockermouth but he is a 1 1/2 year old child and I haven't found any other likely suspects.

Any help appreciated.
J Graham

On looking at the free BMD I notice that there was a Thomas Wren died 4th Q registered at Cockermouth, immediately above him is a Joseph Wren Stoke Damerel. I wonder if a mistake could have happened.I don't know if you have tried contacting the Cumberland registration office they should have the original.

Remember that although  registration began in England in 1837, it was not compulsory until about 1870. It may not have been registered.

Deaths & Marriages have always been compulsory, the anomaly was with births between 1837 and 1874
