George Tuckwood 1842
« on: Monday 29 December 14 13:54 GMT (UK) »
Hello everybody,
Can someone help me to find the marriage of George Tuckwood 1842 and Eliza? He married a "Hannah Mitchell" in 1866 in Notts. who died in 1870 leaving him with a baby (John) .The 1871 census has him with "Eliza" and John aged 2yrs. I've looked on all the sites I know of but haven't found anything.I hope you can help.
Thanks
Maggie

You could get a birth certificate for one of their children, for her maiden name.

The only marriage anywhere for a George Tuckwood between 1870 and 1881 is in Basford Notts

Dec 1872 Basford 7b 274

George Tuckwood to either
Mary Ann Boucher or
Ann Wilkins

It could be that either George and Eliza didn't marry or that she was one of the above and Eliza was her nickname.  I cant see another George Tuckwood married to either Mary or Ann in later censuses.

Thanks for your quick replies.
I've tried to find the birth details of their children;Eliza 1878,Frank 1882 and William E.1886 as per 1891 census but there seems to be no details available. In the 1881 census George and Eliza are not listed,so why was John left with the Palmer/Swift family? Did George and Eliza go abroad to family and then were back for the 1891 census,if so were the children born abroad? I will have to have a look at the immigration info.
Thanks again
Maggie

According to the 1891 and 1901 all the children were born in Nottingham, but I cant see registrations for Eliza or Frank.

William Tuckwood could be either:

William Frederick E Tuckwood born Nottingham Sept quarter 1886 or
William Graham Tuckwood born Nottingham Dec quarter 1886

I agree, it does as the names and ages of the children fit. So where is George in 1881?

I've got details of 2 baptisms for George and Hannah/Ann Tuckwood:

Mary Catherine  dob 1867 05 07         date of baptism 1867 07 07         father George   TUCKWOOD   mother Ann   MITCHEL         NOTTINGHAM St Barnabas R.C.
John  dob 1868 11 01       date of baptism    1868 12 19          father George   TUCKWOOD   mother Ann   MITCHELL         NOTTINGHAM St Barnabas R.C.

and George and Hannah's marriage
1866 12 25   George   TUCKWOOD   Hannah   MITCHELL      NOTTINGHAM St Mary

Given that the children were baptised RC, I suspect that this is Hannah's burial:

1870 02 20   Anna   TUCKWOOD   age 23   buried Nottm General Cemetery   but of the parish of   NOTTINGHAM St Barnabas R.C.

The 1872 marriage mentioned above was between a George Tuckwood and Mary Ann Boucher at Gedling

1872 12 08   George   TUCKWOOD   Mary Ann   BOUCHER    GEDLING All Hallows
