Marriage Eaton Socon
« on: Wednesday 31 December 14 18:33 GMT (UK) »
I'm trying to find the marriage record for Thomas Burrows and Jane Parker who married on 16 Sep 1807 in Eaton Socon. Trying to find his father has proved impossible and I'm hoping that the record just might help with the names of the witnesses.
Thanks

The transcript unfortunately doesn't show witnesses to marriages. You need to check the microfilm for that detail.

The marriage transcript says Thomas Burrows of St Botolph's London, bachelor married Jane Parker, spinster of Eaton Socon, married by licence, but there is no entry on the marriage licence transcript. This is the only Burrows entry in the transcript (up to 1812) [& no Burroughs either]

Whilst at Beds Archives I looked at the microfilm - they both sign their names and witness are Mary Parker & John Humbley (both signing their names)

The marriage transcript has an entry on 18 Sept 1804 for John Humbly of Hail Weston, bachelor to Ann Parker, spinster of Eaton Socon, again by licence, and again not listed in marriage licence transcript.

Another ES marriage on 5 Sept 1804 of Joseph Parker, bachelor of ES to Mary Seymour, spinster of ES

Now was this the Mary Parker, witness to the Thomas Burrows/Jane Parker marriage and are Joseph, Jane & Ann from same family?

As to Thomas Burrows you need to check out his origins from London parish of St. Botolph

** PS Is he the Thomas Burrows, abode Houndsditch, buried at St Botolph's without Aldgate on 2 Sept 1833 aged 77? so born c. 1756

Hi - sorry to jump in but..
noticed the query were Joseph, Ann & Jane PARKER related? - Ann, Jane & Mary - mentioned also were sisters- there was a fourth sister Elizabeth (married Thomas CAWCUTT) - their parents were Samuel PARKER and Elizabeth BUXTON
Ann & Mary married brothers John & William HUMBLEY but we have Jane'shusband Thomas BURROWS deceased in 1838 - just looked at your link JohnP - the Thomas BURROWS who died 1833 isn't the right one but just below there is a will for another Thomas who died 1838 (wife Jane) - which also mentions that the son Thomas died in 1840 (always wondered why there was no son Thomas) - so thanks for the link
The girls didn't have brothers but Joseph may well have been a cousin?
cheers
Deb

Thanks Deb for that info. I've since dismissed the Thomas Burrows who died in 1833. From a contact on Genes Reunited I'm told that he was baptised at St Giles, Cripplegate, London on 25 Feb 1757 being son of James Burrows and Elizabeth George. He was a 'confectioner' by trade and he married Mary Ann Steele at St Giles Cripplegate on 23rd April 1780.

This other, more likely Thomas Burrows of Mark Lane, Limehouse who died 1838 in his will dated 26 Sept 1837 leaves stuff to his wife Jane & son Thomas (executor) but also mentions 'brothers & sisters' but does not name them. The will also is annotated on 22 June 1840 in regard to an Admon granted to a John Burrows as 'the said executor (ie Thomas Burrows junior) died intestate'.

Thomas Burrows - senior buried St Anne Limehouse on 3 May 1838 aged 64 (= 1774)
Thomas Burrows - junior buried St Anne Limehouse on 7 Nov 1839 aged 31 (= 1808)

Theres also burial at St Anne Limehouse on 24 Nov 1825 of Jane Burrows aged 16 (= 1809)

Jane Burrows the mother is also buried St Anne Limehouse on 16 Nov 1852 aged 71 (= 1781), the burial record says her abode was Cambridge. As on 1851 census she is living in Trumpington, Cambridge aged 69 born Ramsey, Hunts being a landed proprietor with unmarried son Samuel born 1812 Limehouse.  I found her on 1841 living in St Anne Limehouse aged 60 with children Hannah 1816, Sarah 1816, Elizabeth 1826, Samuel 1816 & John 1821.
