Thank you for all of that information. It will help in working out which Charles Powell Guest is which!! I don't have a middle name for Charles Guest (m Maria Turner) - he is listed as an engine driver on the 1851 UK census and also William George Guest's marriage certificate. I have found a baptism record which may be him but there is no second name.(Denbigh baptisms transcription - b 1 March 1823, baptised Gresford 23 March, parents John and Ellinor). I will keep looking to see if he was the one who died in Junee.

I have not been able to locate the death record  for the man Charles Powell GUEST whose deceased estate was mentioned in 1918.

It is quite possible that those informing for the death registration were not really aware of a second name or otherwise, but made a sort of guess.

Perhaps you could contact Junee Cemetery. they may hold information on their register.

Hi fmlindsay

This appears to be the son of Chas Powell & Rebecca mentioned above b1880

9612/1924 / GUEST CHARLES E / CHARLES P / SUSAN R / AUBURN

The Sydney Morning Herald , Tuesday 1 July 1924
GUEST -June 19, 1924, at his residence, Knockavannie, 15 Hall street, Auburn, Charles Ernest, dearly beloved husband of Margaret Johanna Guest and father of Leslie, Powell, Mary, Marjorie, Gladys, and the late Arthur, late of North Melbourne and Junee, aged 43 years. At rest.

The son referred to above as Powell was actually Charles Powell. Here is his death:
18998/1965 / GUEST CHARLES POWELL / CHARLES ERNEST / MARGARET JOHANNA / PARRAMATTA

Note the above reference to Junee!

John Guest supposedly died in 1918 in Geelong VIC. He is buried with his wife Martha who died in 1908.

http://mapping.gct.net.au/Mapping/Default.aspx

http://records.ancestry.com.au/john_guest_records.ashx?pid=126299328

Of course this will have to be verified but i dont have access to the VIC bmd.

It was actually 1928, as per cemetery link, but death reg (14928/Geelong) does not state his parents names. He was 81 when he died.

Thank you. I have obtained a transcript of the marriage certificate of Charles Guest and Rebecca Eldridge(Meadley) in 1873 but unfortunately no parents names or birth details are stated for him! However, I am confident that the John Guest referred to is a brother to my great grandfather William George Guest. The search continues.....!

Looking for descendants of Charles Guest and Maria Turner. He was born about 1823 in Gresford, Cheshire (1851 census), married Maria Turner (b1826 Birmingham, Warwickshire) Jan 1844 in West Bromwich, Staffordshire. Children - John Guest b1845, Wolverton, Ellen Guest b1849 Northampton,  I would appreciate any information about this family, either in Australia or the UK.

I suspect that Ellen GUEST may have met a sad end.

She married-
295/1874 LAWN Joco J. (sic)
GUEST Ellen
At Sydney

This being the correct marriage is supported by the naming of this daughter who is the last child registered to them.

9963/1885 LAWN, Ellinor,
Father John J.
Mother Ellen
At Woollahra

Charles GUEST’s mother was Ellinor.

There were other children to the couple among them this boy-

7276/1881 LAWN , Frederick G.
Father John J
Mother Ellen
At Woollahra

This seems to be the death of John James LAWN, husband of Ellen (nee GUEST)

4478/1887  LAWN John
Father Hugh
Mother Margaret
At WOOLLAHRA

Then there is this report in the NSW newspapers.-

Widow Ellen LAWN jumps overboard on a voyage from Sydney to Melbourne 1st September 1887.  Your William George GUEST lived in Melbourne.

http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/135986310

Her death was registered in Vic
LAWN  Ellen
Father: U
Mother:
Death Place  SS BURRUMB
Year 1887
Reg   12397

This is the death of the boy (whose birth I have noted above)

1095/1890 LAWN Frederick G
Father JOHN T
Mother ELLEN
At SYDNEY

This death notice for him states he was the adopted child and nephew of Ann WILLIAMS,  who lived at 47 Rosebud Terrace Paddington aged 8 years

http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/13782755

So one of Ellen LAWN’s sisters was Ann WILLIAMS.

This is a marriage-

257/1868    WILLIAMS   John N
To GUEST Ann
At SYDNEY

Here is the death notice for John Nicholas WILLLIAMS which puts him at the same address as Ann WILLIAMS and little Freddie. 47 Rosebud Terrace Paddington

http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/13732690
Death

4873/1889 WILLIAMS    John N
Father David
Mother Sarah
PADDINGTON

This is a Funeral Notice for John LAWN placed by his brother.

March 1887
http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/13630642

This item tells us that Ellen LAWN  had two of her children with her on the Burrumbeet.
I think the captain is mistaken in saying she was married (rather she was widowed, as most of the reports on the death state)

August 1887
