Young family living on Jersey around 1860
« on: Sunday 04 January 15 23:39 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
My 2nd great grandmother Rebbeca Young was born on 9th March 1860 St Martin Jersey, I have been to Jersey and seen the book that her birth was registered in signed by her father Henry, he was a Hairdresser b.1812 Cornhill London, he married Elizabeth Calver b.1824 Gravesend Kent.
They lived on Gorey pier shown on the 1861 census.
My problem is what happened next, the 1871 census shows Rebbeca and Elizabeth back on main land England and no sign of Henry?
Any suggestions clues etc would be appreciated to take down this brick wall I keep bagging my head against  :D

Can't see a burial on Jerripedia?

So, I guess he died back in England?

You won't find a burial on Jerripedia because what they do have only goes up to 1842. The only way to find out if he died in Jersey is to check through the indexes, which has to be done locally.

;D Many thanks for your efforts, very good info,
I've got the Rebbeca to Albert marriage cert, I thought her fathers name was a mistake.
So I missed the opportunity to search for Henry's death when I was on Jersey ???
Where are you getting this information from (please).

There is a death record for a Henry Young in the St Helier indexes which cover the period from Dec 1861 to May 1863, it is on page 71 so he probably died in late 1862 or early 1863.

I can look at the register next time I am in St Helier to make sure that he is the right guy as his occupation should be listed.
