Batemans in Wendlebury
« on: Monday 05 January 15 04:38 GMT (UK) »
Wondering if anyone would have access to Wendlebury Parish Records?? Looking for details on the birth (circa 1740s), marriage and death of Thomas Bateman. Believe he was married to a Hannah (surname unknown). Also dates of baptism for any children of the marriage would be great if at all possible.
Many thanks.  :)

I can't see a baptism or marriage for Thomas Bateman, there is a burial for a Thomas Bateman on 27 March 1825 aged 77 (therefore bc 1748) and a Hannah Bateman on 26 December 1837 aged 79 (therefore bc 1758)

There are the following baptisms for children of Thomas and Hannah Bateman:
Sarah 2 Jan 1782
Eliz. 11 Jan 1784
Martha 14 Jan 1787  Thomas and Hannah described as paupers
William 12 Apr sic 1789
Hannah 17 Jul 1791 paupers
Maria 2 Feb 1794
Thomas 7 Aug 1796
George 13 Jan 1799
Joseph 7 Jul 1801

Looks like Thomas was baptised and married elsewhere than Wendlebury.

There is a burial for a Joseph Bateman on 6 Apr 1849 at Bicester Union House aged 47 (therefore bc 1801/2) - probably the Joseph baptised in 1801

There is also a burial for a Hannah Bateman on 14 Jan 1878 again at Bicester Union House aged 79 (therefore bc 1798/9) - probably the Hannah baptised in 1791?

There is also the burial of a George Bateman on 3 Jan 1836 aged 3 but haven't tried to find out whose son he was - would that be of interest?

I assume you're interested in Thomas' and Hannah's children, would you like me to see what the Wendlebury records have on any of them - there aren't too many Batemans in Wendlebury at this time nor over the years afterwards.

There isn't much info on Batemans at Wendlebury so in case it's of help the following covers it all:

William & Frances had the following children baptised at Wendlebury:
William 31 Mar 1811 s/o William & Frances, labourer
Thomas 8 Aug 1813  ditto
David 10 Mar 1816  ditto

No marriage for William & Frances but William presumably the one baptised in 1789

Joseph Bateman otp marries Ann Tuffley of Donnington near Stow on the Wold on 5 Nov 1828
Witnesses Thomas Bateman & Mary Taylor

Joseph and Hanna Bateman had the following children baptised at Wendlebury.
William 14 Jun 1829 s/o Joseph and Hannah, labourer
Thomas 25 July 1830 ditto
Sarah 21 Aug 1831 d/o  ditto
George 27 Jan 1833 s/o ditto;  buried 3 Jan 1836 3 y/o

There is another baptism:
Emma 15 Apr 1849 d/o Sarah Bateman, labourer's daughter.

These are the only Bateman records at Wendlebury.

William seems to be a 'family' name occurring three times as the first born son's name.

Maybe gives you a bit of background info on the family.
