Townland in Kilbexy/Kilbixy or Kilberry & Ansell family
« on: Monday 05 January 15 11:33 GMT (UK) »
Here are snippets of a photocopy of a page from a family bible. Not sure whether to put this on the Westmeath board or deciphering!!

Can anyone determine where Sarah Ansell came from please? It looks like 'Binning' and in the 'parish church of Kilbexy/Kilbixy'  but I cannot find a townland or village of that name here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_townlands_of_County_Westmeath
or anything similar on the map

Thank you, Josey

Does it say "In the Kingdom of Ireland"? If so there is a Kilberry in County Kildare.

Thanks groom. Kilberry had been the first thought but then I thought I saw an 'x' rather that 'rr'. Would Westmeath not have been in the Kingdom?

ADDED: I've now put Kilberry in the title, though it's not in Westmeath; I'm hesitant to crosspost to Kildare.

ADDED 2: I've played with the townland image a bit, looks a little clearer now....however it is possible that the right hand edge of the original page is missing...

Could it be Baronstown in Kilbixy Parish, Westmeath?

For other possibilityes search for townlands at http://www.thecore.com/seanruad/
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

If you search by county and than by Historic Parish on the OSI mapviewer Kilbixy is listed.

Thank you for all your input & suggestions.

aghagowey: Baronstown is certainly possible if some of the page is missing. Of course, Sarah may NOT have come from that townland, just married in that parish church for some reason.

Sinann: Thanks; it's a shame that not all the individual farms are named.

I have tried playing more with the image & wondered if it could be Benview? I cannot find the marriage for this couple on rootsireland or familysearch. I haven't found them on any UK censuses where birthplace is given either. I have no idea where they went after marriage. No Hayter children found on rootsireland. No Ansell or Hayter names on the 1833 Tithe Applotment Books for Kilbixy or Kilberry.

Is the general opinion that it is Kilbixy or Kilberry? Thanks. I am hoping for a scan of the original document in due course - this may be clearer.

VERY interesting, thank you.

ADDED: sadly it appears from
http://ireland.anglican.org/cmsfiles/pdf/AboutUs/library/registers/ParishRegistersTable.pdf
that the only records available from Kilbixy parish are marriages 1848 - 2007, later than I need to search.
