Confusion concerning entry of mother on birth certificate
« on: Monday 05 January 15 20:12 GMT (UK) »
Hello

I received the birth certificate of my great, great grandfather today, George Henry Hanniford, born in Oldbury, West Bromwich in 1867.

His parents listed are George Hanniford and Ann.

What I am confused with though is what the entry concerning his mothers name.

It reads as 'Ann Hanniford 'illegible word' Godridge formerly Jennings. I cannot read what the entry says between Hanniford and Godridge, it looks like the word late, but I cannot make it out.

This is the family on the 1871 census, it states some children with the surname Godridge, so there must be a connection, perhaps George's mother Ann married a man named Godridge, but he died and she remarried George Hanniford.

Head   George Hannaford   27
Wife   Ann Hannaford   43
Son   Enoch Godridge   12
Son   Joseph Godridge   9
Son   George Hy Hannaford   3
Daughter   Lilley Ann Hannaford

Living in Ardsley, Yorkshire

Any help in clearing up this confusion would be appreciated
