He had married Alice Maud Goddard  who was born? in 1874 and died Perth 1955.

BOUSFIELD.-On February 6, 1918, at corner Agett and Chester roads, Claremont, Edward, dearly beloved husband of Alice Maud, father of Bertha, and Henry Bousfield, and brother of Mrs. C. J. King, and Rebecca Bousfield, Claremont, and Mrs. W. J. Pringle, Leederville; aged 44 years.

No mention of a daughter named Maud.

The adoption would be 1937 if OP is correct that it took place when Arthur was 21, but he was perhaps known as BOUSFIELD earlier.

Arthur BOUSFIELD  driving the motor bike involved in a fatal accident in1935.
He lived, the item says, at Park St Subiaco which is the address for Alice Maud BOUSFIELD in 1937.
