Hi nannyj

Allen Snr born 1790 was baptised aged 13 and yes, he died in 1877 in Saffron Walden Workhouse.

1841 is the last time I find Richard and Charlotte Taylor, after that they vanish from UK records so yes the chance of emigration is possible.

Allen born 1837 had some more siblings, Charles born 1827 who wed Susan Taylor (same surname) in 1845 and it was their children Benjamin and Joseph who were with Allen Snr in 1861. Charles Taylor died in Harston, Cambridgeshire in 1886.

Nothing concrete on these yet but a small update. In December 1849 there was a scheme to get some of the poor of Saffron Walden to emigrate. Apparently Henry Smith a former councillor went with 80 parishioners to New Zealand. And the article says some went to South Africa. My Richard and Charlotte may have been amongst them. If so then it could explain the disappearance of Allen, Harriet and Sarah in the 1860s. All helps.

Hi,
Cant find out what you are looking for but I did find the following
Charlotte born 1831
Harriett born 1833
Hannah born 1835
Allen born 1837
Ellen born 1841 born 9th March 1841
All baptised together on the 20th October 1841 at Saffron Walden

The other children Charles 1827 Sarah 1828 and Richard 1829 not yet found
Rebecca Taylor was buried aged 30 on April 3rd 1841 in Saffron Walden, it may mean that Rebecca died because of some problem during childbirth.

Hi

Thanks for the info.

In such cases I never give up. I need to try arrivals at NZ or South Africa around 1850 if they survive.

Family search claim to have over 7 million passenger arrivals in New Zealand 1839-1973, unable to find either Richard or Charlotte.
