Help with place name?
« on: Thursday 08 January 15 18:23 GMT (UK) »
Has anyone heard of a place called Clamperland in the Inishowen area?

What townland would I be looking for in the census records?

Thanks  :)

Clamperland is on Google maps - north east of Buncrana.

Hi,
Clamperland seems to be a small area in the townland of Druminderry according to Griffiths maps and lies to the NE of Buncranna as Kay 99 said.

So you think Druminderry then? I'll try that :)

Thanks,

Sorry, I have double checked and Clamperland is a piece of land in the neighbouring townland of Cleenagh. According to Griffiths it was rented by a William McLoughlin and possibly Michael McLoughlin in 1857.

Okay...I had found a birth for the couple I'm looking for and it is in Cleenagh  :)

I finally found them in 1911 in Buncrana, Buncrana which covered some townlands that I didn't think it would. Good to know though. Why they were in Buncrana is very strange but whatever  :-\

Thank you everyone for your help   :-*

It took a while to find so I'll post it anyway may help someone else some day
1901 http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Donegal/Illies/Clunagh/
To be fair to the transcriber it does look like Clunagh on Form N but Clunagh doesn't seem to exist the Enumerator's e's are missing their loops so look like a u.
