Davies/Harrison/Smith
« on: Saturday 10 January 15 13:04 GMT (UK) »
Hi
Requiring some help if someone can sort this one out.  Trying to get back further on a line and having trouble.  Oliver E Davis married a Marea Gertrude Harrison in Bedford in September 1918 they had four girls which I have found but on the the first two births MMN is Harrison and on the later two Smith I cannot find a marriage for a Davis to a Smith in the time frame and cannot find a death for Marea Harrison in the same period. Marea Gertrude Davis (Harrison) died in June 1966 in Bedford which would have made her about 79 which means she would have been born in about 1887 but cannot find a birth for her in Bedfordshire or Buckinghamshire but I can find a birth for as Smith in the September quarter of 1887.  I would love to find her on the census records but don't know where to start but their she may have German ancestry.  I know its a bit of a long shot but any help would be gratefully received.

Hi
The marriage does give Oliver B Davis and Marea Gertrude Harrison as you say.
But as Oliver's middle name has been changed from Edward ,I think there could also be a transcription error with the bride. And if already married before she would be using her 'old' married name.
There seems to be a death for her at Bedford June 1862
Maria G Davis 4a 71 born 1887.

This would fit nicely with a GRO Maria Gertrude Smith Sep 1887 Bedford 3b 325

(actually born Kempston d of John and Jane born 1851 and 1859,the census says John is German)

Her first marriage was at Dunstable 21.9.1912 to a Arthur Wellesey Harrison both 25
Arthur 25 packer Gt Northern Road Dunstable s of Charles painter
Maria Gertrude Frances Smith 25 laundry maid High St South Dunstable d of John Smith builder
Witnesses Herry Alfred and Edith Dorothea Smith.

Arthur died in Mar 1915 ,strangely in Birmingham.

Hope that helps

Hi Ciderdrinker

Many thanks for looking at my dilemma for me what you have provided all makes sense now.  Its true sometimes we need a fresh pair of eyes looking at things to make sense of things. Hopefully I will be able to find her in the census now and be able to trace the family further back.

Best Regards

Sarah
