Searching for Richard Jurd
« on: Sunday 11 January 15 12:18 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find out more information about my 3G grandfather, Richard Jurd.  I think that he was probably the Richard Jurd who married Ann Edmunds in 1803 at Fareham but I have not been able to find anything about his birth/baptism or parents, although I do wonder if he was mistranscribed as Judd!  (1783 Fareham. Parents Richard and Mary)

When his daughter, Harriet Jurd, was married in Fareham in 1842, he was described as a carpenter and his 'residence' was Fareham.  The transcription of the record of Harriet's baptism at St. Peter & St. Paul, Fareham, only gives her mother's name, Ann.

There is a baptism for a Richard JURD 10th December 1769 son of Robert & Elizabeth at St Mary Extra (near Southampton).  The may be too early and too far away to be your Richard.

Thank you.  It's worth considering.  I don't think the distance would be any problem - possibly about 16 miles or so but he is more likely to have been too old.
