McAllister's Land Market Street, Greenock
« on: Sunday 11 January 15 13:21 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to establish if Market Street, Greenock and McAllister's Land Market Street is the same place. I have confirmed ancestors living in number 24 and 26 Market Street and have found others living in the same dwelling or next door who could be linked. It appears that the 1851 Census records it McAllister's Land Market Street  and the other censuses just Market Street. There is also a Colvin's Land Market Street just to confuse things a bit more. They are all in the Parish of Greenock Middle but on the 1841 Census, Market Street 24 is Greenock West.  ???

McAllister's Land will just be a tenement, built on a strip of land fronting Market Street.

Skoosh.

Thanks Skoosh. I just needed to know that I am not looking at two different addresses.

Just out of interest, I'm finding various ancestors living in Market Street.  The McPhersons were in 24 in the 1861 census, the McTagues were at No 18 in the 1861 census, the McGillvrays in 24 at the 1851 census - all my ancestors but not related to each other until generations later.

Hi Sheena,  I have found the same, my family the Foleys living on Market St and my husbands Crighton also living on Market St at the same time.  My husband is from Liverpool and I had moved to Leicestershire as a child where we met.
