Baptismal years confirmation - Pirton
« on: Monday 12 January 15 11:04 GMT (UK) »
Hi everyone

Has anyone got access to Pirton Parish Baptism Records please, I am looking for  conformation of the baptismal years for some of the children born to Christopher & Mary Crouch, some years are different on Pirton Local History Group site  to those on  Family Search, I am more inclined to think Pirton site has it right, I am a stickler for  wanting my research to be  correct, so confirmation would be very helpful, below are the names and baptism dates  of the children that have different years listed, the information on Family Search indicate they got their information from the Pirton Hertford England

Name         Pirton Site                 Family Search
Christopher      6th March     1708      6th March     1707
Francis         3rd March     1710              3rd February 1709
Thomas              2nd February 1718      2nd February 1717
James         17th March    1719      17th March    1718

There is also another child named Mary who married a Mr Godfrey, she is a legatee in her Brother John’s Will, but I can find no trace of a Baptism  or marriage for her.

Any help would be most appreciated

Many thanks

Pirton local history group have put their registers online here

http://www.pirtonhistory.org.uk/

The names you list are there as well as other children and references to Christopher in other parish documents.

Perhaps it is the different way these records have been transcribed.  It was before the Gregorian Calendar was adopted in England, familysearch would appear to be showing it as it officially was and Pirton are showing it as it would be if it was as the current calendar is ie starting in January.

Hi Both

Thank you both , I did take the information from the Pirton site you mentioned, so maybe Family Search did use the old dates, what I am hoping for is if someone has access to the records (on microfiche) of the entries to confirm the years.

regards

Familysearch have the records on film that you can hire from your local LDS family history centre
https://familysearch.org/search/catalog/316079?availability=Family%20History%20Library

The chances are that any fiche produced will be a transcript and not copies of the original register

The LDS or perhaps I should say the Genealogical Society of Utah were the foremost group microfilming original parish registers up until they started digitising them instead.
Many of the microfilm and microfiche records available from UK County Records Offices were originally filmed by the GSU
Such microfiche and microfilm contain images of the original records not transcripts.
I think you are confusing the LDS microfiche with microfiche offered by Family History Societies which do tend to be transcripts.
