John Samuel Winnett (1849-1917) & Eleanor Maisey (1851-1921)
« on: Tuesday 13 January 15 18:10 GMT (UK) »
John Samuel Winnett & Eleanor (Ellen) Maisey were my paternal great-grandparents.

The 1911 Census records that John and Eleanor had eight children but three had died by the date of this Census. One of these three was my grandfather George Samuel born in 1878 (registered in Chelsea) but had died on 10th January 1911. I am trying to work out the other two who died.

The five still alive were:
Henry Percival 1876-1941, birth registered in Kensington
Albert Sydney 1881-1971, birth registered in Chelsea
Christine Louise 1884-1965, birth registered in Kensington
William Arthur 1885-1917, birth registered in Kensington
Edith Diana 1888-?, birth registered in Kensington

John and Eleanor lived in Kensington mainly, with a period spent in Chelsea where George Samuel and Albert Sydney's births were registered.

I have done a search for births and deaths for both Kensington and Chelsea for the years 1875-1911, three names fit the bill although I don't know their parents' names. These three are:-

Albert Robert birth Kensington Jul-Aug-Sep 1879 and death Kensington Oct-Nov-Dec 1881
Elizabeth birth Kensington Apr-May-Jun 1882 and death Kensington Jan-Feb-Mar 1883
Edith Eleanor birth Kensington Jul-Aug-Sep 1882 and death Kensington Apr-May-Jun 1883

Are there any records out there with parents' names which could help me or will I have to send away for these three birth certificates?

Thank you
Roger

If this is one of the family he should appear with them on the 1881 census.
Also Albert Sydney, who you know is yours, was born March quarter 1881 but Albert Robert didn't die until December of 1881. That would meant that they had two children of the same name, probably not very likely.

Major oops, major typo in my first post.

Albert Robert should read Alfred Robert.

That makes a difference then - it could be him. Where is he in 1881 though, that might make a difference ;D

Edith Eleanor birth Kensington Jul-Aug-Sep 1882 and death Kensington Apr-May-Jun 1883

Cant be both of these because of the birth dates. Of the two, I'd go for Edith Eleanor, simply because all of the other children have two name.

I cant find baptisms for any of them.

Albert Sydney is the only child with his parents in 1881. Henry P is with his WINNETT grandparents, and George S is with his MAISEY grandparents. Indexed as WIMETT.

Alfred born 1879 looks to be the son of Alfred and Emily, who were in Lewisham in 1881.

George Samuel and Albert Sydney appear to be the only two baptised.

There only appears to be one Alfred Winnett registered about that time  - the one you've quoted. I wonder if this is him in 1881

RG11; Piece: 735; Folio: 32; Page: 25

Alfred Winnet   20 Barman
Emily Winnet   22
Alfred Winnet   1
Arthur Winnet    6 months

Sorry Ian, didn't see your post, but we have the same idea.

So out of the births and deaths on Freebmd that only leaves one out of Elizabeth and Edith.

It could be that two were stillbirths that she counted, they wouldn't be on online indexes.
