Just a thought but could Mary be Jonathan Walters second wife and the Taylor children be hers from a previous marriage perhaps?

That's what I thought too. I couldn't find them in 1851 so I wonder now did they change their name?

Im wandering now also if john had a first wife too. i have found a tree on ancestry with a wife called elizabeth and lots of kids all born after 1800 and ending in 1819. am now trying to find anything for a marriage for john and an elizabeth, and a later marriage for john and mary.

Hi,

The IGI has a John Water marrying an Elizabeth Pearce 29-5-1807 in Chieveley, Berks.

This may be his first marriage.

oh thankyou Alan for finding that. i looked for that specific one on ancestry and managed to find it there so thankyou so much. Im now going to look for a Mary Taylor marrying john see if i have any luck. Cant find an elizabeth walter passing either. Unless she did it else where, not in Berkshire, which ofcourse is more than possible but it doesnt help me pin it down as i have no idea of her age. oh well will keep looking for all 3 of them. thanks for all your help with this one.

A possibility??? Might be worth a closer look!

Freebmd have a John Walter marrying in Newbury in Mar Q 1838 and on the same page a Mary Taylor but others as well. (As the 1841 census records William Taylor aged 4 and then Richard Waller aged 2
this would fit nicely with a marriage at about this time)

oh thankyou very much. did better than me.. funny that elizabeth is waters which is my surname. from what we have discovered it first became waters with john's son james. John is mostly walters but his dad richard is a walter. im waiting to discover a de walter. have to go back quite a bit though cause i think they dropped the de's quite a way back.
will have a good look at those you have found thankyou.

There is also this burial:

Place:Welford, St Gregory
Name: Elizabeth Waters
Age:47
Date:15th April 1828

(The burials for John & Mary in 1874 and 1877 both record the surname as Waters)

ah ha that must be her, all 3 buried in the same church. just brings me up a bit of a surprise though if she died in 1828 and my 3x gg james was born in 1826 i guess mary is not my great great great great granny. humm. of to change my tree then. i guess my aunt put mary as his mum because she was with john in the 41 census, just goes to show you shouldnt presume. i had been trying to find james baptism to see if it gave me his mum but i couldnt, i wander if it is because i was looking for mary.
thanks so much for helping me with this. i do appreciate it.
