Burial Record
« on: Sunday 18 January 15 18:14 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I've recently been asked my a relative to see if I can find where my Great Uncle was laid to rest; John Joseph Somerville who was born in 1942 and died Q2 of 1943.  The family lived in Drogheda and I know that a number of family members are laid to rest in St Peters Cemetery.  So maybe his there.

But the family story states that he was placed in a grave with an elderly lady who passed away and may not be related to the family.  I don't live in Ireland and not to sure as to where the burial registers would be located.

Does anyone have any advice on where I should first start my search?

Many thanks.

A few Somerville listings here but these are only from headstone inscriptions-

A bit about the cemetery from the same site-

Looks like it closed for burials a few years ago-

Can't find contact details but perhaps someone else will be able to help.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Hi,

I have made some enquiries with Louth County Council and from what they have said it seems the burial records would be held by St Peter's Parish. Their contact details can be found at the following page. I would suggest you start by writing to them. If they don't hold the burial register they will be able to tell you who does.

Good Luck

Michael.

Thank you aghadowey & Michael for your replies.

I've done some digging around of my own and fount out he wasn't buried in St Peters Cemetery.  A relative has informed me he was laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery and I'm awaiting to hear back from the St Mary's Parish Office to see if he can be located in the register.

Regards,

Stuart

Hi,

Just an update.  I heard back from St Mary's Parish office and they informed they couldn't find a record of John in Calvary Cemetery.  Which I wasn't surprised to hear considering he was placed in a grave that was registered to someone else.

So, I know he is buried in the Calvary Cemetery.  But will never know exactly where.
