Ovingham and Newburn Parish requests
« on: Monday 19 January 15 13:20 GMT (UK) »
Dear all,

Does anyone have access to the Ovingham and Newburn Parish Registers? I am specifically looking for:

1. Baptism of Joseph Wright in Newburn in Dec 1770, parents are William and Susanna-I want to know if an occupation is listed for William
2, Marriage of Joseph Wright to Isabella Wardle in Ovingham in Dec 1795. Are there any occupations listed or names of parents listed?
3, Burial of Joseph Wright in Ovingham in 1847. Is Joseph's age listed?

Thanks
Keith

Nothing listed in the Bishops Transcripts

2, Marriage of Joseph Wright to Isabella Wardle in Ovingham in Dec 1795. Are there any occupations listed or names of parents listed?

Very occasionally occupations are listed, but not in this case. Parents not usually listed.

3, Burial of Joseph Wright in Ovingham in 1847. Is Joseph's age listed?

The Bishops transcripts don't include 1847, sadly, but his age should have been listed.

Jen, thank you so much. Brilliant! If you don't mind, I may well come back for a few more like:

1. Baptism of Joseph Wright in May 1804, Independent, Horsely by Wylam
2. Marriage of Joseph Wright and Margaret Coxon in November 1830 in Ovingham

Thanks

Keith

You will find the Bishops Transcripts here - why not have a trawl through?  :) (not searchable by keyword)

Note - not all parishes are covered, and not all years. Check out individual parishes for details.
Very few marriages post-1837.

By the way, there are also a lot of records to be found on freeReg http://www.freereg.org.uk/
You can check coverage of individual parishes via this page http://www.freereg.org.uk/parishes/index.shtml

Just in case you still need this information - the age at death of Joseph Wright is 78 and his abode is given as Prudhoe.  Burial date 31 Dec. 1847.

There is an additional note which says 'mortuary fees 10/-'

Thank you Christine. Tell me, are the 1847 burial records for Prudhoe online?

Thank you Christine. Tell me, are the 1847 burial records for Prudhoe online?

Prudhoe was in the Parish of Ovingham http://www.genuki.bpears.org.uk/NBL/Ovingham/
so you could try looking through the Bishops Transcripts for that Parish

Although the BTs for Ovingham give an end date of 1869 they do, in fact, end at 1840 and then 1869 is added onto the end.

The information I provided, Keith, came directly from Northumberland archives - not online.
