Baptism in Willington 1819
« on: Monday 19 January 15 17:11 GMT (UK) »
Hi
If anyone has access to the baptisms of Willington for the period 1819-20 perhaps they could do a look up for me please?
I am looking for a bastard child of Rachel Agutter, in her bastardy order of 30 March 1819 she is described as living in Willington and pregnant, so I am hoping that there is a baptism to find.
No success in Family Search unfortunately!

Familysearch does show a baptism in the Community Contributed IGI - Joel Agutter son of Rachel on 28 Mar 1819 at Willington.

Sorry, typo on the bastardy date - should have been the 13th March 1819.
That's an interesting answer you've found, haven't been able to duplicate it myself, how did you do it?
When I search on records (with mother Rachel) the results just say "no records found" and contribution results don't come up at all.

Thanks for that, had forgotten how to do it!

It would be nice to have the register confirm the user submission, sometimes it's just wishful thinking!

Willington PR baptisms have on 28 Mar 1819, Joel son of Eli Stokes & Rachel Aggutter of Willington; although it does not state he was illegitimate.

Noticed that the bastardy order in Beds Archives ref QSR/24/1819/122 states Recognizance: Eli Stokes, Willington, labourer bastardy with Rachel Agutter.

The order itself shows that on 13 Mar 1819 both Eli Stokes, labourer & Richard Stokes, husbandman committed £20 each to Willington parish as Rachel Agutter, single woman, is with child likely to be born a bastard, by father Eli Stokes.

Eli Stokes baptised Willington 30 Jun 1799, son of Richard & Elizabeth Stokes
Rachel Gutters baptised Willington 14 Oct 1792 daughter of Thomas & Sophia Gutters/Argutters

Noticed that Eli & Sarah Stokes were baptising children in Willington from 1822 onwards.

Seems Joel Agutter married Elizabeth Stokes at Biggleswade RD ref 6/85 in June 1840 and in 1851 this family was living in Goldington. Have you got the marriage cert in case it names his father.

Wow! Many thanks indeed for all the info!
That's sorted him out so now I can get back to the main ancestry.
Joel was a loose end that I had found whilst searching for my Agutters - specifically Joseph born about 1827, who I can't find a baptism for.
I was trying to create an over all picture of the Agutters in the Willington and Cople general area to see if I could slot Joseph in anywhere.
My theory is that he is the son of Joseph (born 1800) and Elizabeth Bonfield, but the trouble is, if he is their son he would have been born between when I know they are baptising in Willington (1824) and when they are baptising in Bedford St Paul (1832) - so I might never know!
Many thanks again for your help
Helen
