Thanks ladies for finding my needle in a haystack.  You are awesome.

Does anyone have any other information on this family?  Perhaps you Newbe?

I don't have much on this part of the family. My late father's first wife was a Lorigan so that is why I am interested.

Thanks Lucy,

Just getting excited that we've found her.

My mother in law said that Theresa was a nasty old woman.  Perhaps bitter from her divorce from William.  My mother in law was put in a convent school when she was quite young.  She used to visit Theresa on her school holidays and remembers her as being quite mean to them.

Honora RYAN (m. Laurence LORIGAN - 1848 )

[Note:   LORIGAN / LORRIGAN - spelling varies, (as does Laurence/Lawrence) ... so I'm quoting these from records found. ]

Hi Paula

Here is the death notice for Honora LORRIGAN.

Because of the poor quality print of this notice, it doesn't come up employing a "name search", so you'll need to use the following process to access it.  ;)

http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz

> Browse by Title
> Select, "Auckland Star"
> Select, year = 1909 / month = June / day = 8th
> Click on "zoomable view" feature
> Scroll down to "Deaths" on page 8

PS :   Adding a transcription of this notice, in following post >

"Auckland Star" - 8 June 1909 - page 8 - Deaths

LORRIGAN - ...  on 7 June at the residence of her sister (Mrs John SANDFORD) ... West Street, Honora, widow of the late Laurence LORRIGAN, and eldest daughter of the late Captain John RYAN of this city.   R.I.P.   Private Interment.

-------------------
So, it's a pretty helpful notice if you're wanting to find more for Theresa's mother.  ;D

I've searched and found info for the sister (Mrs. Sandford) ... and that has turned up a whole lot more ... which I'll add in following posts.

Incidentally, Honora LORRIGAN (LORIGAN) was buried at Symonds Street Cemetery, Auckland on 9 June 1909.

For some reason I can't bring up the Symonds Street Cemetery records at present ???
But from my earlier (rather scribbled) notes the record said  ...

Honora LORIGAN - 76 Years
Buried - 9 June 1909
of West Street, Newton
[Confirmed as Symonds Street Cemetery Burial from Little's Funeral Records at Auckland City Library. ]

Mrs John SANDFORD, the sister of Honora LORRIGAN, was formerly, Esther RYAN (she married John SANDFORD in Auckland in 1863).

Esther SANDFORD lived to a ripe age (88 years) and fortunately there was an obituary published for her.

http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz

"New Zealand Herald" - 26 June 1928 - Mrs Esther Sandford

In part it says ... Esther was born in Sydney [Australia] and arrived with her parents in the "Safia Pete"  when 6 weeks old.
She was the 4th daughter of the late Captain John RYAN, a Master Mariner and owner of the ships, "Esther", "Bridget" and "Ariel" ....

The notice goes on to list her five surviving daughters.

Australian Births [source:  ancestry.com]

The following births seem to me to be a very good fit.

RYAN - Honora
Birth date:   1834

Birthplace:  Sydney, NSW
Reg. Year:  1834
Reg. Place:  Sydney, NSW
Volume No.   V 1834372 126
Father:   John
Mother:   Catherine

----

RYAN - Esther
Born:   Sydney - Parish Not stated
Reg. Year :  1841
Father :   John Ryan
Mother :  Catherine
----
I later found a tree (of sorts) at ancestry, which suggested that John RYAN's wife was Catherine, nee HENNESSEY  ???
